Terry Lee
Original Oil Paintings & Bronze Sculpture
Biography The wild beauty of African wildlife is depicted in the paintings of artist Terry Lee. Capturing his animals in a moment of time and in all of their majestic beauty, impressionistic style, along with his magnificent sense of color, gives new meaning to Africa's spectacular scenery and wildlife. Traveling to Africa and seeing these animals in their native habitat helps me to see with "African eyes." To paint the color and action into my work say's Terry, "I do my best to create a sense of energy, while still maintaining a romantic tone and peaceful texture. I capture emotional moments using color and light, sweeping brush strokes, and bold swaths of color, drawing the eye into the scene. This gives the feeling of the intense light and heat of the sun, creating mood and atmosphere for the viewer."
Although he is best known for his brilliant and powerful wildlife paintings, Terry also favors the tender grace of women and activity of children, which he gained while studying with William Whittaker in the early 1970's. During this same period, Terry finished his Degree in Art and Design. Years later, his training was enhanced by studying with numerous other artists who helped Terry to refine his technique. Most recently, Terry's artistic growth has been greatly enhanced by studying with personal friend and mentor, prominent Sculptor/Painter, George Carlson.
Terry has created a truly unique style. It reflects a combination of the old masters, Monet, Degas and Sorolla and a lot of "Terry Lee" bringing a new style and energy to wildlife art. Terry's collectors experience a bold usage of color that is refreshingly different from anything they have ever seen. As one admirer quoted at a recent gallery showing. "You're a breath of fresh air in a world of sameness". Terry Lee's work has been exhibited at prestigious shows in throughout the West and his oil paintings and bronze sculpture have been purchased by both private and corporate collectors throughout the United States.
